Introduction

I think we have a shorts problem. TikTok is really popular in the short form content market. But I've reached the end of TikTok. Some skit writers joke about this, but because of the combination of seeing the majority of the best it has to offer, and them having a large profile on me that most of the content now is ads. I frequently get sponsor videos on things that I might like. They're correctly interesting and tailored towards me, but I want content, not to be sold to. YouTube is better with their shorts for me because I have premium and don't get ads. But even then, I see that I'm starting to get the bottom of the barrel content. Especially, when I'm starting to get videos with less than a thousand likes, and no comments.

I'm going to watch more movies. I want to see more breathing room when it comes to flushing out a character.

Power Rangers (2017)

I know this movie didn't make as much as it wanted to. I also know that they were hoping to spin up a cinematic universe but that doesn't look like it's happening. The move wasn't ground breaking in any means, maybe it has to be for a movie to make profit nowadays, but I did enjoy it. I made some fun liberties to the canon and the design of the suits and zoids were well crafted. I also find it funny that it was obviously sponsored by Krispy Creme.

I do want to expand on the lore change, because I found it interesting. Spoilers. Rita in the original canon made the green power morpher, the original story had the green power ranger that works for her. In this movie, Rita didn't recruit her own power ranger, she was a power ranger--the original power ranger. Corrupted with the desire for power, she killed the rest of her team members; every one besides Zordon, which in this canon was the original power ranger. So, Zordon here is not only a mentor, but one from experience of being a past power ranger. That was my favorite take away from the movie.

Scenes that stands out to me was when Rita was with the yellow ranger when she was still in training and couldn't summon her suit yet. The way she say a sexual line but in an eerie tone was great. Rita had the power play. She could kill the yellow ranger at any moment but wanted to toy and intimate her. Rita said, "I'll show you mine..., if you'll show me yours", when she slowly morphs into the green ranger suit, further showing dominance in the scene.

Another scene that stood out to me was towards the end where Rita got to the Krispy Creme. It was the place that the movie decided contained the artifact that everyone wanted. It was raising to an intense climax, but Rita had to take a moment to slowly grab a donut and take a bite before the building was destroyed and we got back into the action.

I didn't hate the movie. I didn't mind having it in the background. I used to be a fan of Power Rangers when I was a kid. It's too bad it won't be anything greater. I think the number of series is around 2 dozen at this point, so there is a lot of source material to work with and since I haven't been in all the details of the TV show, there's a lot of room for me to be surprised if further movies were made. Oh well.
